Don Rickles was one of America's most beloved stand-up comedians, famous for his rapid-fire insult comedy that was simultaneously cutting and affectionate. A Las Vegas staple for five decades and friend to Frank Sinatra, he was also a respected dramatic actor and the voice of Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story franchise.

Born in Jackson Heights, Queens, in 1926 to parents Etta and Max Rickles who emigrated from Kaunas (Lithuania, Russian Empire) and Austria-Russia, Rickles grew up in a Yiddish-speaking Jewish household. His comedy — technically insulting but fundamentally loving — is the performance of a community that survived through laughter.
