Gala Dalí — muse (salvador dali) with roots in the Russian Empire
Gala Dalí (born Elena Ivanovna Diakonova) was a Russian-born artist's model, muse, and art dealer who became the defining partner of Salvador Dalí — appearing in his paintings, managing his business affairs, and shaping his public persona for over 50 years. She was previously married to the Surrealist poet Paul Éluard.
Tracing the roots — Kazan
Born in Kazan, Russia, in 1894, Gala went to Switzerland for tuberculosis treatment where she met Paul Éluard and entered the Surrealist circle. Her Russian origins — the mystical, extreme personality formed in Kazan — became raw material for the Surrealist imagination. She was the real engine behind Dalí's commercial empire.
Kazan. At the time, this region lay within the Russian Empire, which spanned from Poland to the Pacific.
