Oleg Vidov — actor (red heat) with roots in the USSR
Oleg Vidov was a Soviet-Russian actor who became one of the most popular film stars in the USSR during the 1960s-70s before defecting to the West in 1985. He settled in the United States and continued his acting career while also working to bring Soviet-era animated films to Western audiences.
Tracing the roots — Moscow
Born in Moscow in 1943, Vidov was a celebrated Soviet film actor whose handsome face made him one of the USSR's biggest stars. His defection — via Yugoslavia and Austria to the United States — was one of the more dramatic Cold War departures, and his subsequent American life and career represents the Soviet cultural diaspora at its most vivid.
