Tracing the roots — Czernowitz (Ukr)
His father André Glucksmann was a French philosopher of Jewish descent whose own family traced to Czernowitz (then Russian Empire, now Ukraine) — the multilingual, multicultural Austro-Hungarian and Soviet city. This heritage has directly shaped Raphaël's passionate opposition to Putin and his deep engagement with the history of Russian imperialism and Soviet totalitarianism.
Son of philosopher André Glucksmann, whose parents were Austrian/Russian Jews.
