Sasha Demidov — actor with roots in the USSR
Sasha Demidov (Israel Sasha Demidov) is an Israeli actor born in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR (USSR) in 1957 who studied theatre at the State Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow before emigrating to Israel in 1990. He became one of the founding members of the celebrated Gesher Theatre in Tel Aviv and one of Israel's most respected stage and screen actors.

Born in Tashkent and trained at GITIS — the most prestigious theatre school in the Soviet Union — Demidov carries the full weight of the Soviet theatrical tradition. The Gesher (Bridge) Theatre that he helped found was established by Soviet-emigré actors who brought the Russian theatrical tradition to Israel, creating one of the country's finest theatre companies.
