Theodore Kosloff was a Russian-American dancer, choreographer, and actor born in Moscow who trained at the Imperial Ballet School before emigrating to America, where he became Cecil B. DeMille's principal choreographer and a popular silent film star.

Born in Moscow in 1882 and trained at the Moscow Imperial Ballet School, Kosloff brought the full weight of Russian classical training to Hollywood and American dance. His choreography for DeMille's epic films — and his school in Los Angeles which trained a generation of American dancers — was a direct transfer of Russian ballet culture to the New World.
