Boris Schnaiderman was a Ukrainian-born Brazilian literary scholar, translator, and writer who became the founding figure of Russian literature studies in Brazil. His translations of Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Pushkin, and Mayakovsky into Portuguese opened Russian culture to an entire continent.

Born in Uman, Ukraine (Russian Empire) in 1917, Schnaiderman emigrated to Brazil where he spent his career at the University of Sao Paulo. His translations and scholarship created an entire academic tradition, making him one of the most impactful diaspora conduits between Russian culture and the wider world.
